Two things I don't understand about NY
May 22, 2009No. 1: So I'm at this frozen yogurt place and I look up at the menu. There, besides the sizes is the price AND the calorie count. Knowing how many calories my cup of frozen yogurt is the last thing I want when I'm eating it. It takes all the fun out of eating dessert.
But it's not just frozen yogurt. All of the Starbucks that I've wandered into also have the calories on the sign next to the lattes and frappuccinos. Thank God Bar-L doesn't post the calories next to the greasy plate of chili-cheese fries I get there.
No. 2: The calorie content definitely disturbed me, but not near as bad as the "sharing charge" at this other restaurant. It's a deli-type joint, and has Texas-sized sandwiches. These sandwiches could feed two people at least, if not more.
But at the bottom of the menu is this little phrase: $3 charged for sharing.
Really, $3 for sharing a sandwich that one person couldn't possibly eat alone? Charging for sharing in THIS economy, when sharing should be encouraged? Only in the big city, I guess.
