Rain, but no shine
June 10, 2009So it's been raining -- off an on -- ever since I got to New York. My one co-worker who's from Brooklyn says it's the worst summer she's ever seen because of the rain.
Rain is especially not fun because it means that already rude and inconsiderate New Yorkers get to hold umbrellas, which just gives them more ammunition and excuse to bump into you on the street or in the subway.
And yet, well, I guess it's just the North Texas country girl in me, but I just can't ever get mad when it rains. When you grow up in a land where rain is so infrequent -- and yet so vital to everything you know -- being thankful and happy when it rains just becomes a habit.
And so, when I'm walking down the street covered in rain with my broken umbrella, there's always a smile on my face . . . maybe the only one in town.
