Why wasn't Ed Barnett writing letters during King George's reign?
June 12, 2009I consider Ed Barnett a friend.
In fact, I tell people Ed is the reason I got into the newspaper business.
As a kid, I used to hang around the pool hall downtown, and every day Ed and Marvin Penrod would come in around lunch time and stay all afternoon.
My daddy never had a job where he could shoot pool all day.
So I asked the guy who ran the pool hall where Ed and Marvin worked.
He said "the newspaper."
Right then and there, I decided I wanted to work at the newspaper. Hell of a job.
I didn't know at the time that Ed's granddad owned the paper.
Having said that, I am getting pretty sick and tired of my friend's letter writing.
Ed is smart and his writing is clever.
But it is all B.S.
Ed is a Fox News robot, programmed to be far right and far wrong.
Today he has a letter to the editor saying how the government has become way too powerful in controlling our lives.
"Isn't that Marxism? Isn't that tyranny?" is the way the letter ends.
Everybody has a right to his or her opinion.
I respect that.
But why wasn't my friend Ed writing letters during the long eight years that King George was in power?
Ed, turn to Page 9A of today's paper and read about the Iraq veteran who committed suicide after seeing what he saw fighting George's war.
Ed, we are just six months past the worst president in the history of this country.
This guy sits in his luxurious Highland Park home (that we the taxpayers are still paying for) with blood all over his hands.
Plus, my friend, our economy was in the toilet when Obama took office.
Why didn't you write a letter about the tyranny of King George?
Could it be because Fox News didn't program you to do it?
Peace, my friend.
Shuffle up and deal.

Amen, dude. I think the right-wingers stopped inducing their 8-year Lunesta perma-sleep on or around Jan 20, 2009.
I'M NOT REAL PROUD OF GEORGE BUSH. HE MADE LOTS OF MISTAKES, BUT HE HAD SOME CORE VALUES AND CONVICTIONS AND HE TRIED TO STICK WITH THOSE VALUES. BARACK OBAMA HAS NOT KEPT ONE CAMPAIGN PROMISE. HE HAS SPENT US INTO 4 TIMES THE DEFICET OF 2008 IN JUST 5 MONTHS AND HE HASN'T GOT STARTED ON HEALTHCARE, WHICH ACCORDING TO CONGRESS WILL COST BETWEEN 600 BILLION AND 1.5 TRILLION DOLLARS. WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY NICK. WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU GUYS TO SEE THAT. CHINA HAS TOLD US SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH THAT THEY DON'T WANT OUR BONDS. INTEREST RATES ARE RISING TO SELL BONDS, KILLING THE HOUSING MARKET THAT IS TRYING TO REBOUND. THERE IS NOT BUT 3 WAYS FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO GET MONEY. TAXES, BORROWING AND PRINTING. WE ARE DOING IT ALL. WHEN THIS INFLATION HITS IT WILL BE THE CRUELEST TAX OF ALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU GUYS DON'T SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING. THE TRUTH IS I DON'T TRUST MANY OF THESE GUYS IN CONGRESS. MOST OF THEM ARE UNACCOUNTABLE TO THE CITIZENS. WHEN NANCY PELOSI REFUSES TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CIA AND THEIR SUSPOSED LYING TO CONGRESS, TO THINK SHE IS 2ND IN LINE FOR THE PRESIDENCY, OUGHT TO SCARE YOU TO DEATH. ONE THING ABOUT OLE GEORGE. WE ARE SAFE, NO MORE ATTACKS FROM TERIOST. HOPEFULLY IT WILL STAY THAT WAY. BY THE WAY. SOLDIERS ARE NOW READING MORANDA RIGHTS TO CAPTURED AFGANISTAN ENEMIES. I DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE US CITIZENS. YOU ARE A FRIEND AND ALWAYS WILL BE BUT YOU NEED TO BE TAKING A STANCE TO HOLD THESE PUBLIC SERVANTS ACCOUNTABLE. DOESN'T IT SCARE YOU THAT YOUR KIDS AND GRANDKIDS ARE IN DEBT THEY CANNOT PAY BACK. WE ARE MORTAGING THEIR FUTURES. AND THE SADDEST PART OF THIS IS THAT "IT AIN'T YOUR MONEY CONGRESS AND MR PRESIDENT." IT BELONGS TO THE CITIZENS. BY THE WAY. OBAMA PROMISED ON MULTIPLE OCASIONS THAT HE WOULD BEGAN WITHDRAWING TROOPS ON DAY ONE. DIDN'T HAPPEN AND HE HAS DOUBLED THE TROOP COUNT IN AFGANISTAN, BUT NOT ONE NEWS STORY ABOUT AMERICAN CASUALTIES. IT WAS A DAILY COUNTDOWN FOR THE MAINSTREAM PRESS FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS. FUNNY WHAT GETS REPORTED ISN'T IT NICK.
I'M NOT BLUFFING
ED
