Stars out of playoffs
May 01, 2006It's hard to believe the Dallas Stars, who set a franchise record in wins this season, are now out of the playoffs.
With today's 3-2 loss, Colorado beat Dallas 4-1 in the best-of-seven series. And I really thought it was Dallas' year.
Mike Modano rebounded from a sluggish 2004, and Jason Arnott has been a force all season. Sergei Zubov was a great two-way player, and goalie Marty Turco is pretty solid.
But I guess when the playoffs begin, anything can happen. Just ask the Suns and the Spurs in the NBA.
The bottom line is - you can't lose three times in OT (which the Stars did), you can't give up a shorthanded goal in the last two minutes (which the Stars did) and you can't take a stupid penalty in the last few minutes and then give up a power-play goal (which the Stars did).
That's playoff suicide.
Oh well. Here's hoping the Mavs sustain a long playoff run.
