Lots of us had the same idea
January 28, 2008With a randomly warm, pleasant Sunday in late January, my boss Nick Gholson decided we needed to play some golf.
So Nick, fellow co-worker J. Scott Russell and I drove to River Creek Golf Course and played a round. Actually, only played 12 holes.
That's because the course was absolutely packed. Apparently, many across the area had the same idea.
Not that I minded the wait (although we had to leave early because somebody, okay because I, had to work at 4 p.m.). But if this round was any indication, maybe 2008 will be a better year of golf than 2007 was.
While three three-putts in a row was disgusting, I drove the ball consistently. Let me rephrase that. I drove the ball consistently well -- many golf partners can attest to my consistent slices that leave me needing a telescope to locate the fairway.
When all was said and done, I was +14 after 12 holes. Not my best ever, but I will take a 92 or 93 (what I was on pace for) for my first round in months. And considering the ridiculous wind, not too shabby.
It's supposed to be nice again on Monday, which means I will have to do some yardwork I promised the wife I would do.
But in between, I am planning to call some coaches about Friday's UIL realignment. I will blog some of my thoughts on the subject in the next day or two.
