Wrong yet again

January 21, 2008

If I had blogged after the Cowboys' loss to New York last week, you would have heard me rant about what a dud this football weekend was supposed to be.

After the Colts bowed out, the thought of New England-San Diego excited me about as much as taking the dog outside at 5 a.m. in sub-freezing conditions.

And then Dallas -- who had been the cream of the NFC crop until December -- decided to stink it up at Texas Stadium against the Giants.

No way New York could hang with Green Bay. Isn't Eli Manning due for a clunker game? That happens and New York's acclaimed road winning streak goes down the drain.

Despite working part of the day, I still planned on watching as much football as possible. I just wasn't anticipating a couple of competitive games.

Well, like I often am, I guess I was wrong. Chargers-Patriots turned out to be a pretty decent game. A healthy L.T. and some red-zone conversions, and we could have seen one of the biggest playoff upsets of all-time (Do not worry, Joe Namath. Your Jets upset in Super Bowl III is still No. 1).

I even picked the Packers to cover the spread against the Giants, which was about seven points. I wasn't sold on the Giants. I am still not sold on the Giants.

But there they were, making big plays and getting a near-perfect game from Eli (which I touch on in Monday's "From the Bullpen").

What I thought was going to be a blowout turned out to be one of the better playoff games of the last few years.

So, shows you just how much I know.
