Henrietta can breathe a sigh of relief

October 19, 2008

I talked to Henrietta coach Byron West on Saturday night and it sounds like QB Seth Crumpton's shoulder injury is not that bad.

West told me it was "basically a flesh wound" and that Crumpton would sit out the next game against City View. But he should be back on Oct. 31 in a huge 5-2A showdown against Holliday.

If anyone questioned how much Crumpton meant to the Bearcats -- he is almost a one-man wrecking crew on offense -- they found out how desperately he is missed on Friday.

Against a pedestrian Olney squad, Henrietta scored six points. The Cubs had been allowing 32.1 a game.

Luckily, the Henrietta defense pitched a shutout and Crumpton will not be needed against City View next week. West said Chase Darnell will get that start.

I thought the three playoff teams in this district were Bowie, Henrietta and Holliday before 5-2A started, and after two weeks, I still believe that.

With Crumpton out, I think it is possible for Nocona to sneak their way in. But it sounds like he'll be back in action soon enough, and Bearcat backers should breathe a sigh of relief.
