I hate mistakes
October 22, 2008I hate mistakes. Just hate them.
Hate them worse than watching a stupid movie on TV because my wife wants to see it. Hate it worse than getting stuck in traffic or having mono - which I did get over the summer.
But I had a big one in today's paper. I called Henrietta coach Byron West -- Byron Gravitt, who happens to be the Petrolia coach.
The sad thing is I read the story 3-4 times before turning it in. And still did not catch it. This wasn't a in-the-heat-of-deadline mistake, either. Wrote the story Monday afternoon.
The only thing I can say is I've worked quite a few days in a row (we're installing a whole new operating system for the paper, so we had training all last week) and my brain is going into work overload.
Not only am I writing football stories and dealing with the new system, but I was spending time on a hockey feature this week, too.
But I am sure we're all busy with our job - it's not an excuse. Anyway, Thursday is my first off day in a while and so I won't be blogging any predictions.
I plan on doing tons of yardwork and not thinking about high school football at all. I'll be fresh on Friday - and hopefully that means no more mistakes.
