Archer City-Albany showdown

December 4, 2008

When I cover football games, I usually only ask for two things:

1) A close game; no fun writing my story at halftime because one team is up 35-0.

2) A quick game. The quicker, the easier it is to make deadline. I absolutely hate when one team gets behind by 30, then throws 50 times trying to get back in the game.

This should feature both aspects. I expect the really good running teams to pound out yards, while two really good defensive teams will try to keep big plays at a minimum.

Albany's program has traditionally been better, but the Wildcats have played at a high level all year.

I will guarantee this much: Whoever has the most turnovers will lose.

Archer City has uncharacteristically committed five turnovers in the last two games. The good news for the Wildcats is they forced nine in those wins.

Archer City has a lot of things going for it. It will need to get off to a better start Friday than it did against Lindsay, but I think the Wildcats will come in extremely focused.

I am sure the Lions will come to play, too. One edge I give Albany is in the kicking game (Coach Green said they have a good kicker), so that could become a factor.

I expect a really close game, but I have to go with the Wildcats by three.
