At the state tournament
March 6, 2009I'm killing time before Bowie's 2A girls semifinal, watching the other semi (Woodville vs. Salado) at the Erwin Center.
Woodville was winning 30-15 in the last few seconds of the first half when Salado's Brennan Boydstun sunk a half-court shot at the buzzer.
SInce then, Salado has hung in there, and the score is 32-23 with 4:31 left in the third quarter.
If Bowie beats Brock, they will have a pretty good height advantage over Woodville, who is pretty fast. If Salado and Bowie play in the final, I think it'll be a runaway.
But Bowie has to beat Brock first, in what Coach Garrett told me was the best two teams playing in the tournament.
** A non-basketball related note. I met a pretty interesting guy last night whose name is John Paul Hebert. He's one of the pros at the really nice UT Golf Course, and he happens to be the neighbor of one of my best friends.
What makes him so unique? His father and uncle both won the PGA Championship. I don't know which one was which, but Lionel Hebert won the 1957 PGA at Miami Valley Golf Club, the last year it was match play.
And Jay Hebert won at Firestone in 1960. That's pretty amazing -- to have two people in your family win majors.
Anyway, I'm going to get ready for the Bowie game. Score update: Woodville 38, Salado 25 with 1:27 left in the third.
