« Seymour goes on the hunt again | Main | Wildcats facing elimination »

It happens again

March 24, 2009

Last year, there were only two 11-man head football coaching positions that became available in this area -- Seymour and Petrolia.

Now that Bowie and WFHS have filled their positions, there are only two remaining openings in this area currently -- Seymour and Petrolia.

Petrolia has opened up because Byron Gravitt has taken the defensive coordinator position at Bowie, joining the staff of former Seymour coach Josh Castles.

Ironically, it was Gravitt who hired Castles to be Petrolia's offensive coordinator last spring before Castles bolted to Seymour.

Another interesting note: Seymour's last two coaches (David Fambrough and Castles) have taken head jobs at bigger schools. Petrolia's last two coaches (Robby Wood and Gravitt) have taken jobs as assistants at bigger schools (Rider and Bowie, respectively).

We will see how these two searches will play out. I know Petrolia pretty much knew it wanted Gravitt, who had been the Petrolia's defensive coordinator the previous two years, to be the coach when Wood left. I have no idea if they will try to hire within or not.

I figure Seymour will look to bring someone from outside in, only because that is what they have done twice in a row now. It has worked both times, although that outside coach has stayed only a year on each occasion.
