Do you see the ending to the Bull-Celtics game?

April 27, 2009

Wow - what a thrilling Bulls-Celtics double-OT game on Saturday. Too bad I (and probably most of you) missed the ending to it.

For those who weren't watching, with about 5 seconds left in the first overtime, the local Okie ABC station cuts to a weather update. Now I understand that this thing happens from time-to-time.

But you can't wait two minutes? This storm is nearing Crowell, but it's in the middle of nowhere right now. The local Texas stations (KAUZ and KFDX) are just putting up a doppler screen on the corner of the TV.

So if you want to watch the Capitals whipping the Rangers or the PGA's Zurich Classic, you're good to go. Want to watch one of the best basketball games of the year -- well, not so much.

About five minutes later we return to find out Ben Gordon's 3-pointer is sending us to a OT No. 2. And just then, we cut back to the weather guy.

First thing he says -- please stop calling to complain about missing the game. This is life-saving info.

Now have I mentioned the Crowell area is not even under a Tornado Warning? Like the rest of the area, they're under a Tornado Watch. And they are probably getting hail coming their way.

But besides a T-Storm Warning, nothing has really changed. Except now, the weather guy has good news (insert sarcasm here).

The Bulls-Celtics game has been moved to another KSWO 24-7 station, so this guy can stay on the air longer.

Only problem is I can't get that station. And you probably couldn't either. If you live in Oklahoma, you probably can. Or maybe if you bust out the rabbit ears on your TV and pray.

So now we have absolutely no chance of getting back to the game. This game could be going 5 OT's for all I know. With the game moved to a different channel, we now have about 20 minutes of learning how to get to safety and get the same repeated info over and over and over again.

Have I mentioned that the state discussing this weather is not even the same state affected by the storm. Oklahoma would be later of course, but KFDX and KAUZ didn't seem too concerned with this cell.

Bu the time they got back to basketball, the game was over. I know the Bulls won, but I still have no idea how.

I understand the importance of updating people about the weather, especially in this area. But the station did a poor job of handling the matter -- why couldn't they keep the game on ABC and put up a scroller saying "Check out our 24x7 channel to learn about the severe weather near Crowell."

Would that have been that hard?

I really hope ABC never gets rights to the Super Bowl. I can see it now -- late 4th quarter, Patriots driving for the game-winning score and.........

It's snowing in Duncan and there's some icy conditions in Lawton.
