Coaching carousel

May 5, 2009

Now all the area 11-man head coaching positions are spoken for -- at least for now -- but there still has been some shakeup in the area.

Archer City has lost two assistants after its stellar 12-1 year. Defensive coordinator Jason Sims and Clint Perkins are both going to WFHS (see Nick Gholson's story for other WFHS coaches coming in).

The Wildcats have filled one of those slots with ex-Bowie coach Brad Keck. I have always thought Keck did a good job with the Jackrabbits, and having a guy who was a 3A head coach on your staff at the Class A level is a luxury most schools that size do not have.

My old college buddy Marc Bindel, who played at WFHS in the late '90s, will be a secondary coach at Rider. He had been coaching with ex-Hirschi coach Danny Edelman at Red Oak, Bay City and Arlington Sam Houston.

I do not know how many coaches new Seymour coach Rocky Smart is bringing in, but I know he will have at least one spot to replace. Beau Burnett is leaving for the Houston area. His wife Barbara, Seymour's softball coach (he is the assistant), got a job at one of the Humble schools, and he'll either coach there or somewhere in the area.

And last I checked, Windthorst is looking for an assistant. No one has left, but they are filling a spot that went empty this year when James Gerick took off last summer.

According to the Region 9 website, Henrietta also has an assistant opening, but I honestly have no idea who is leaving.
