In Case You Took a Bathroom Break

Some people (I'm one of them) watch the Super Bowl more for the commercials than for the game. If you're into football, there will always be replays of the key plays on the post-game show or the evening news. But, what about the commercials?

This year, if you missed those ads, you can find them online. Anyone searching Google today was confronted with a link to a page with all of the Super Bowl commercials. I went all day before finally clicking in and wasting a few minutes watchings ads. Doh!

Andrea's End Zone Dance

The See It, Snap It, Send It legion had a camera at the ready this morning when Channel 7 News Director Andrea Parquet-Taylor did some sort of end zone dance in her office. Behind her is the whiteboard that tracked the week's Super Bowl stories.

Half-Off Super Bowl XL Merchandise!

Quick... You have three hours! Super Bowl XL merchandise is being sold for half-off yesterday's prices at the Commerica Park souvenir store. The sale runs until 6 p.m.

Judging by the amount of merchandise still on store shelves all around downtown Detroit, I would think other stores will follow suit.

Have you seen stores discounting their stuff? Add a comment and share the info.

"Thank You For Visiting Our Super City"

That's what the freeway signs said as I headed out of downtown Detroit tonight. What a fun, classy and uniquely Detroit weekend! We should all do this again sometime.

Maxim Party Setup

Here's what I found out about the Maxim Party. 10,000 people want to come, but only 1,500 will get through the doors. Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Reggie Bush, Tony Gonzalez, Tom Brady and Antonio Gates are all expected to attend.

They're not giving out gift bags. Instead, like a carnival, you'll be able to "earn" credit in the fake gambling room upstairs. The more you "win," the more you can buy in the "Glamorama Store."

What's in there? A ton of stuff, from golf bags to leather jackets, DVDs and CDs (complete sets) to grooming products.

Maxim's Sports Columnist

Check out Diane Hill. She's the first female sports columnist for a men's magazine. I met her today at the Maxim party setup. She knows her stuff.

The Detroit River Smells Just Fine to Me

For the most part, it seems as though out-of -town journalists have been pretty darn laudatory as they file columns from our fair city this week. A co-worker just alerted me to an exception.

Writer Jeff Hawkins has an oddly poor column in the Northwest Herald, a suburban Chicago newspaper.

Check this thing out. It's strange. Hawkins boarded a bus that wasn't going anywhere touristy. That seems to be a sore point for Mr. Negativity. Is he just looking for scorn from Detroiters? What do you think?

Snooper Bowl Trophy

If there's one celeb I wouldn't mind bumping into this weekend, it's Snoop Dogg. I am (not so secretly) a fan. His ill-fated MTV show, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, lasted only 6 episodes a few years back. Still, it was some brilliant television. Really.

Anyway, Snoop is in town for the big game... and a little one. He has a youth football league that will soon launch nationwide. Tomorrow, Snoop's team of Little Leaguers will play a local team at the Silverdome. (More on that)

Just what's on the line in the "Snooper Bowl II"? My WXYZ.com colleauge Sarah Morgan points out that the winner takes home a trophy created by Tiffany & Co. Sweet!!

Right Arm on eBay

If you're in need of a right arm, one Steelers fan is selling his on eBay.

See the auction here.

I guess people will do just about anything for Super Bowl XL tickets. After two bids the price is up to $20.50.

That's an Awful Lot of "Terrible Towels"

A morning press release from eBay (that I'm just reading now) proves just how popular those yellow Steelers towel things are. According to the release:

"Over 3,300 Terrible Towels, Steelers fans' swinging sensation, have flown off eBay's virtual shelves over the past two weeks. Average selling price has been $15. Listings are receiving an average of 24 bids per item, demand comparable to Apple iPod nanos on eBay during the holidays."

Frank Responds

So, just when did Sammy Sosa grow a mustache? Frank Turner answered that tonight on 7 Action News at 5 p.m.:

"Right after Fred Flintstone got a late night talk show."

Wow. I can see it.

"When Did Sammy Sosa Grow a Mustache?"

First off, welcome to Detroit, Jimmy Kimmel. Last night's show was great. I laughed... And I couldn't wait to pull up side-by-side photos of Channel 7's own Frank Turner and baseball player Sammy Sosa. So here they are. Hmmmm... I don't really see it.

Lions / Bears Next Thanksgiving

I heard from a trusted source at the National Football League that the Lions will host the Bears next Thanksgiving Day at Ford Field. The NFL Network will televise the Redskins and Cowboys on Thanksgiving night. The Kansas City Chiefs will likely host an opponent TBD in a third game on Thanksgiving day.

Schedule:

Bears at Lions - FOX, 12:30
TBD at Chiefs - CBS, 4:00
Redskins at Cowboys - NFL Network, Primetime

There is still the possibility that the Seahawks would play the Chiefs on FOX and the Dolphins would play the Lions on CBS, but that is a secondary plan right now.

Tuesday Notes

Have you figured out my routine? I experience the day and post when I get home - usually late. Media Day was ho-hum... nothing to write home about, like shooting fish in a barrel if you're a TV guy. If you can't make a good story out of that, jeez!

The Media Party was tonight at the Fox Theatre. I was impressed with the setting and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Kudos to the Channel 7 folks who showed up lookin' mighty fine!

After the Media Party, I made my way to the Ren Cen - lots of road closures. Beaubein near Greektown was shut down as well as Woodward and Brush. Go around the perimeters and you'll be allright.
