Andrea's End Zone Dance

The See It, Snap It, Send It legion had a camera at the ready this morning when Channel 7 News Director Andrea Parquet-Taylor did some sort of end zone dance in her office. Behind her is the whiteboard that tracked the week's Super Bowl stories.

Half-Off Super Bowl XL Merchandise!

Quick... You have three hours! Super Bowl XL merchandise is being sold for half-off yesterday's prices at the Commerica Park souvenir store. The sale runs until 6 p.m.

Judging by the amount of merchandise still on store shelves all around downtown Detroit, I would think other stores will follow suit.

Have you seen stores discounting their stuff? Add a comment and share the info.

Lions / Bears Next Thanksgiving

I heard from a trusted source at the National Football League that the Lions will host the Bears next Thanksgiving Day at Ford Field. The NFL Network will televise the Redskins and Cowboys on Thanksgiving night. The Kansas City Chiefs will likely host an opponent TBD in a third game on Thanksgiving day.

Schedule:

Bears at Lions - FOX, 12:30
TBD at Chiefs - CBS, 4:00
Redskins at Cowboys - NFL Network, Primetime

There is still the possibility that the Seahawks would play the Chiefs on FOX and the Dolphins would play the Lions on CBS, but that is a secondary plan right now.

Of All the Burgers in Town...

My friend John tells me that he stopped into Fudruckers in Dearborn for dinner last night and was shocked to find a table of Seattle Seahawks at an otherwise empty restaurant. John says NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, and strong safety Michael Boulware were all there. My friend said they were the best, nicest guys and they talked to him for 30 minutes!

Monday at the Ren Cen

What a buzz... lots of things going on around the Renaissance Center. I highly recommend making a trip through if you can to see the ESPN set, NFL Network's set and Radio Row.

Seattle news of the day - a van carrying some key players was involved in an accident .

Tuesday is media day - I'm going to find out the first Super Bowl memory of a few players and see if I can make a story out of that. Tune in at 5, 6 and 11 to see what I come up with.

Is Jimmy Kimmel Going to the Actual Game?

No! He is working right across at the street at the Gem Theatre, but Jimmy tells me he won't be able to go to the game.

I sat down with Jimmy for a half hour or so yesterday (you'll be seeing clips all week on Action News). He says it's killin' him that the Gem is so close to Ford Field, but preparations for his Sunday night show will keep him from attending the game.

Kimmel also said he was really looking forward to having Kid Rock on the show Tuesday for an interview and performance. He's also really excited to have the Four Tops on the show this week.

Public Transportation... In Metro Detroit!

Anyone driving our freeways in the past few days (that's everyone, right?) has seen the signs. Those message boards that usually tell of traffic delays and travel times now talk about Super Bowl shuttle service. Wow! Public transporation!!

I just looked into it and there are some really easy "park and ride" options to take you into the city for all of the hubbub. Start with this PDF flyer from DDOT. It shows shuttle stops at the Zoo in Royal Oak, the Macomb Mall, Northland, Fairlane Mall, Wayne State, and City Airport.

You can buy special transit passes that will work on DDOT and SMART buses as well as the People Mover and the Transit Windsor system. There's some impressive coordination here and the all access multi-day pass is only $20 (compare that to the cost and trouble of a few days of downtown parking)!
